The McGees at Camp Twitch and Shout Family Weekend

Camp Twitch and Shout was started in 2009 as a summer camp for kids with Tourette Syndrome to go and forget about their diagnosis and just have fun. It became a life changing event for everyone involved.” – Emmett Williams, documentarian for Camp Twitch and Shout – The Movie

This past summer Jacob had the opportunity to spend a week in North Georgia with other kids and adults who have Tourettes.  It was an incredible experience for him.  For me, it was the first time since Jacob’s diagnosis that I was able to breathe because I knew that he would not be ridiculed or embarrassed because of his TS.  In that respect, it was life changing for me as well.

This fall we all had the opportunity to attend a Camp Twitch and Shout family weekend where many of the summer campers were able to reunite.  That weekend I became part of something far greater than I have ever known.  I became a part of a community of families who know the struggles that I have been going through since Jacob’s diagnosis and I realized that the sense of community that I had been searching for for so long, was right here.  Because of Jacob’s Tourettes, I finally belonged to something that mattered. I was exactly where I was meant to be.

I invite you to take 30 minutes of your time and watch this video that was produced by Mission Man Media. You will not be disappointed.  You will have the opportunity to listen to some amazing stories and see just how incredible these kids are.  If you like what you see, please pass it along to all you know and help me spread awareness about Tourette Syndrome.
